For Toronto residents

Toronto water meter not reporting? FlowLens can help you read it.

The City of Toronto is replacing failed water-meter transmission units across the city. Your water meter can still record your usage, but you may be asked to provide an actual reading while you wait for replacement.

Snap a photo to log your meter reading

The free FlowLens app helps turn a meter photo into a saved reading. Toward the end of the billing period, the City sends affected residents a reminder letter asking them to report their water usage, so your confirmed reading is ready when you need it.

Most Toronto residential utility accounts are billed every four months. By adding readings throughout each billing period, you can follow consumption and estimated water cost before the bill arrives, so you are not surprised by it later.

What Toronto residents need to know

The City is replacing water-meter transmission units (MTUs), the battery-powered devices that automatically send water-use data for billing. The meter itself continues to record actual water use.

If a failed MTU has moved your account to estimated billing, the City may ask for a manual meter reading. A confirmed reading can help the City reconcile estimated and actual usage.

Let FlowLens do the reading

  1. Find your water meter and take a photo with FlowLens.
  2. Review and save your reading.
  3. Copy your confirmed reading and submit it using the City's instructions.
  4. Take another reading to see your water use and estimated cost between any two dates, so you know what your bill could look like.

Important

FlowLens is not affiliated with the City of Toronto. It helps you read and save your water meter number; it does not submit readings to the City or replace City instructions.
